Southampton is pleased to introduce The Central Southampton map.
These free printed maps promote the best ways to move around Southampton city centre. The maps have been designed with the visitor in mind, but will also benefit residents and businesses, ensuring users reach their destination, quickly and efficiently.
The design of the map is unique to Southampton using an identity that will be applied across all marketing, print communications and wayfinding products in the city as part of the Southampton Legible City project. The map is also the first product to use the new Southampton typeface - a font designed specifically for the city.
Initially, there have been 150,000 maps printed, these are available at the Tourist Information Centre, as well as from many of the hotels, attractions and businesses throughout the city.
Each map includes an overview of the central area, with highlights showing the key areas for shopping, eating and drinking as well as the football stadium and major transport interchanges. On the reverse there is a detailed map showing the central shopping area with details such as location of cash points, toilets and other services, as well as the opening times of the shopping centres. A transport diagram, illustrating the bus services that connect the principal destinations, is also included.
Southampton Legible City has been developed for the Southampton City Centre Management by specialist design and wayfinding consultants, City ID. The Southampton typeface was developed by Dalton Maag. The map was printed by LPC Printing on ON Offset paper obtained from sustainable forests and supplied by Howard Smith Paper.
Southampton Legible City has been developed with the support of the European Regional Development Fund through Interreg III B North West Europe Programme, Southampton City Centre Management, Southampton City Council, Southampton Partnership and South East England Development Agency.
